Vintage Report
The 2022 vintage in Galicia received an excellent score of 94 points according to the Robert Parker Vintage Chart. The wines from this year are of outstanding quality, approachable, and ready to drink early.
Martin Codax, the winemaker of this Cuatro Pasos red wine, made his name with his white Albariño, but now also has one of the finest vineyards in Bierzo. Here, they cultivate the red Mencia grape with all the love and passion it demands, as it's not an easy grape to grow. The beautiful, well-known Mencia vineyards are located near the village of Otero and are now quite mature. The vines are over eighty years old and produce full, powerful Mencia bunches.
Completely hand-harvested for this Cuatro Pasos Mencia
The climate is perfect: abundant sunshine, a cool breeze, and nutrient-rich soil contribute to a top-notch wine. At their ideal ripeness, the Mancia grapes are harvested individually by hand. The pickers inspect each bunch to ensure only the finest juice is obtained—well, they certainly succeeded. The skins ferment for three days at ten degrees Celsius to extract as much color and flavor as possible. The result is a fruity red wine with plenty of power and smoothness.Cuatro Pasos Mencia is scents and flavors
A sultry wine with abundant fruit and softness, truly an incomparable wine! On the nose, this Cuatro Pasos Mencia offers aromas of blueberries and flowers, blackberries, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is soft and ripe, with abundant freshness and a lovely light acidity that completes this wine. We noted notes of plums, cherries, barm, vanilla, light spices, and toffee. The finish is creamy and refined with hints of red and black fruit. If you're pairing this red wine with a dish, coq au vin, pasta salads, and carpaccio are excellent pairings.Product details
