Located in Toro, a beloved wine region in Spain, Matsu's beautiful wines have been produced since 1999. Their exquisite flavor, combined with the accompanying labels, has revolutionized Toro wines. The use of family members on the labels emphasizes the winery's family-owned nature. The Matsu Picaro, Viejo, and Recio have conquered the world. However, it was high time for a woman to take charge. La Jefa, literally "The Boss," is now the newest member of the Matsu family.

A white wine from the Matsu winery

Compared to the other wines, La Jefa possesses considerable charisma. While other Matsu wines focus on the intensity of the red grapes, Matsu La Jefa gives a starring role to the white grape varieties. This is certainly remarkable, as these are rarely found in the vineyards in Toro. This also explains the incredibly low production of Matsu La Jefa. The white wine is made from Malvasia grapes, with some Chardonnay and Viognier added. These grapes grow under the best conditions. However, the vines are incredibly old, resulting in extremely low yields. The grapes are only harvested by hand at the end of September. At this point, the grapes are just right to be included in Matsu La Jefa.

What does this Spanish white wine from Matsu taste like?

After harvest and pressing, the precious juice undergoes a rich oak aging process. For 14 months, the white wine is aged in lightly toasted French oak barrels. This creates a rich and aromatic aroma. You'll smell exuberant vanilla, ripe apricots, and peaches. A pleasant buttery note reveals itself in the palate of Matsu La Jefa. Combined with the silky smooth flavor of soft fruit on the palate, this Matsu wine develops exceptionally well. We are big fans of Matsu La Jefa.
