The Prataviera family has been cultivating wine in Gascony, in the heart of Armagnac, for three generations. The estate's vineyards are situated on the unique shell-limestone and sandy soils found only there, right on the Camino de Santiago to Santiago di Compostela. Each grape variety is grown in its ideal location, following the guidelines of natural viticulture.
The perfect microclimate for Sauvignon Blanc Cotes de Gascogne
The Cotes de Gascogne region is located in southwestern France, where white wines are primarily produced. Grapes such as Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng, and Sauvignon Blanc are used for this. Domaine de Menard excels at pressing these grape varieties, resulting in superb wines. It's a true family business, established in 1920. The two Jegerlehner and Prataviera families are jointly involved. The estate covers 90 hectares. The ancient Via Podensis, the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, once ran through here. The soil is chalky and scattered with pebbles, which helps retain heat during the day and release it into the soil at night. This creates a consistent microclimate in the vineyard.
During the vegetative phase, significant efforts are made to enhance quality. The grapes are selectively harvested at their optimal ripeness. The primary goal is the richness of the berries' aromas, which is only guaranteed when they are optimally healthy. The friendly owner and oenologist Elisabeth Prataviera is responsible for the entire vinification process.
The aroma and taste of Menard Sauvignon Blanc
The aromas of freshly mown grass and green apple leap from the glass as we pour this Menard Sauvignon Blanc Cotes de Gascogne. A wonderfully fresh aromatic aroma immediately invites you to take the first sip. The palate is crisply dry, lively, and above all, clean. You'll taste grapefruit, fresh apple, and gooseberry. A delicious wine with, for example, mussels, shrimp, or a goat cheese salad.
