We all know Misty Cove Wines for their white Sauvignon Blanc wines, but did you know they also make a number of Pinot Noir wines? These red wines are highly sought after for their full-bodied, Burgundian character. This has also been noted by the international wine press, as Misty Cove has already won several awards for this red wine. Winemaker Andrew Bailey and his Dutch wife recently purchased the winery. After a successful stint as winemakers at several major wineries, the couple wanted to start their own. They purchased the finest vineyards in Marlborough and Central Otago and today produce unique, powerful wines.
The cool climate for Pinot Noir
It's long been known that the Pinot Noir grape thrives in cooler climates. But in the vineyards of Marlborough, it's truly fantastic. The Pinot Noir grapes receive plenty of sunshine, but also plenty of cooling from the ocean breeze and the sharp drop in nighttime temperatures. This allows the Pinot Noir grape to develop perfectly and draw strength from the rich soil structure. The soil, rich in pebbles and granite, provides the Pinot Noir with everything it needs for a top-notch harvest. After being hand-harvested, this red wine matures for several months in the Misty Cove wine cellars to fully develop.
The beautiful red wine from Misty Cove
This red Pinot Noir from Marlborough is a true success. In the glass, it gleams a beautiful light red with a bright appearance. The most beautiful aromas burst forth, offering impressions of strawberries, raspberries, berries, and, of course, an earthy and spicy note. On the palate, it's a pure indulgence, with abundant richness of red fruit accompanied by a lovely spiciness of pepper and bay leaf. A light smoky hint lingers on the back of the tongue, with a pleasant note of refined tannins.
