This is a delicious and affordable example of one of Northern Italy's most appealing dry white wines, and it's organic! Made from the Turbiana grape (also known as Trebbiano di Lugana, or Verdicchio) grown on the shores of Lake Garda.

The history of Montresor

The Italian winery Montresor has a long history and tradition of winemaking. The family's roots lie in Orléans, in the heart of France, where Claude de Montresor was a duke around 1600. In 1892, the family moved to Veneto, where they immediately established a winery. Today, it is one of the traditional wineries for Amarone and Ripasso. The grapes for this Lugana are sourced from the hills south of Lake Garda. Giorgio Montresor produces a portfolio of wines that increasingly rival the offerings of the region's more fashionable names—using modern technology to craft the finest wines from each site. The Turbiana grapes are harvested from the vineyard between Sirmione and the seaside resort of Peschiera del Garda (at the southern tip of Lake Garda), in the small Lugana region – this lies on the border between Lombardy and Veneto. The vines, trained by Guyot, grow on sandy clay soils. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are cooled before being crushed, after which they are left in the press for a cold soak for 10 hours. After settling, the juice is fermented at 15 degrees Celsius in stainless steel with selected yeasts. The wine rests on the fine lees for 6 months, with occasional batonnage.

The scent and taste of Montresor Lugana

The Montresor Lugana radiates a pale straw yellow color in the glass. The nose is intense, revealing clear notes of yellow peaches and ripe apples. Delicious! The palate is fresh and subtly fruity, yet anything but overpowering. A concentrated wine with an aromatic finish. An ideal accompaniment to whitefish or risotto.
