The Barberani Moscato Passito emphasizes the passito component, the dried grapes. When the Moscato grapes are ripe, the Barberani winemaker deliberately leaves them on the vine for a while. This allows them to dry out, dramatically increasing their sugar content. This results in a concentrated, sweet wine, and therefore in this top-notch Moscato!
The pure wines of Barberani
Production is handled by the Barberani winery. They are one of Umbria's most respected producers, famous for their pure, clean-tasting wines. The vineyards are situated on hills overlooking Lake Corbara, near the city of Orvieto in the southwest of the province, south of Tuscany in central Italy. Of the estate's approximately 80 hectares, 50 are dedicated to vineyards and olive groves. The vineyards' soils are quite diverse, combining characteristics of volcanic origin with sedimentary limestone and clay. They enjoy excellent midday exposure and a very favorable climate with a significant temperature difference between day and night. The vineyards grow both international grapes such as Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as local varieties such as Grechetto, Trebbiano Procanico, Trebbiano, Muscat, and Sangiovese.
The aroma and taste of Barberani Moscato Passito
In early September, the warm sunlight dries the Moscato grapes, concentrating their sugars. Conversely, the fresh evening air enhances the grape's aromas. This specific drying technique enhances the intense aromatic qualities and the wine's exceptional pleasure. This Moscato Passito has a beautiful deep amber color with copper highlights. This dessert wine has aromas of caramel, honey, apricots, raisins, and orange. In the background, we noticed toasted, nutty notes. It is a full-bodied and refined wine with a powerful, sweet flavor. This wine is ideal with fresh fruit or lighter, sweet desserts.
