Incredibly high-quality, and as far as we're concerned, this white wine, made from the Gewürztraminer grape, deserves nothing but gold medals. It all began for the Cantina Tramin Kellerei winery in 1898, when a group of winegrowers established a cooperative in beautiful South Tyrol/Alto Adige. Today, the number of affiliated winegrowers exceeds three hundred. The strength and cohesion are so strong that the winery boasts an incredibly rich history. But this doesn't happen by chance; hard work has gone into the vineyards in the heart of South Tyrol/Alto Adige. After the arrival of winemaker Willi Stürz, the winery has taken an even bigger step forward compared to the competition. The wines are impeccable, and several top cuvées have been created, including this Nussbaumer.
The old Gewürztraminer vineyard of Nussbaumer
This Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer has a long history, as it is made from a very old vineyard, some forty years old. The vineyard is situated in the best location for the Gewürztraminer grape, with plenty of sunshine and primarily planted in a southeasterly location. This allows the vines to receive plenty of sunshine but also plenty of cooling from the wind and falling nighttime temperatures. The soil in which the roots grow is very strong. Thanks in part to the right amount of lime, the Gewürztraminer bunches grow beautifully.
Wood bearing for the Tramin Nussbaumer Gewurztraminer
Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are harvested by hand. The selection is very strict because winemaker Willi Stürz wants only the finest bunches for his crown jewel. After pressing, the entire wine is aged for a full eleven months in oak in the cellars of Cantina Tramin Kellerei. It develops beautifully and acquires all the wonderful qualities of the oak. After this, this Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer is bottled and matured for at least another three months in the Tramin cellars. The result is truly magnificent: the aroma reveals a richness of rose petals, spicy lily blossoms, exotic yellow fruits such as melon, mango, passion fruit, lychee, and notes of ginger and saffron. The palate is equally exquisite, with a rich and full flavor. Beautiful impressions of tropical fruit, lemon peel, and spicy notes of ginger, saffron, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. What an unprecedentedly beautiful glass and very special to drink.
