Nore Chardonnay 2024 Pays d’Oc, France
Nore Chardonnay 2024 is a smooth white wine from Pays d’Oc, originating from the steep southern slope of the Pic de Nore. This mountain, at 1211 m, is the highest point of the Montagne Noire and is located northwest of Carcassonne. Its location is special because Atlantic and Mediterranean air currents converge here. As a result, this Chardonnay gains a southern ripeness, while its origin remains connected to the cooler influence of the mountains.
Vineyards and region
The grapes for Nore Chardonnay grow in Southern France, on the southern slope of the Pic de Nore.
• Location / Origin: The vineyards are located on the very steep southern slope of the Pic de Nore, between Carcassonne and Narbonne. The Montagne Noire protects this area from cooler northern winds.
• Altitude: The Pic de Nore, at 1211 m, is the highest point of the Montagne Noire. The vineyards are located on the slopes of this mountain, where sun and altitude together provide ripening with fresh tension.
• Climate & Influences: The Montagne Noire forms the border between Atlantic influence in the west and the Mediterranean climate in the south. The collision of these air currents often creates dark clouds above the northern side of the mountains.
• Landscape: On the southern slope, vineyards are nestled among garrigue, the typical Mediterranean vegetation of shrubs and aromatic plants. This environment gives the wine a distinctly Southern French character.
Grape composition
This white Pays d’Oc wine is made entirely from Chardonnay.
• Chardonnay – Pays d’Oc: Chardonnay gives Nore its soft taste, round structure, and approachable fruity style. In Southern France, the grape often achieves more ripeness and mildness than in cooler origins, making this wine smooth and easy-drinking.
Tasting notes and serving tips
Nore Chardonnay has a soft, round taste with a light hint of honey. The style is smooth and approachable, with a mild fruitiness and a pleasant finish. This is a Chardonnay that focuses primarily on softness, simplicity, and immediate drinking pleasure.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Chardonnay at 8–10 °C, so that its soft taste remains fresh enough and the subtle hint of honey comes through beautifully.
• Dishes: Delicious as an aperitif and suitable with a salmon salad.
More information about Pic de Nore
The name Pic de Nore refers to a special place in the Montagne Noire. Nore is associated with "noir" (black) and "ore," a reference to the dark clouds around the summit and the gold that was mined here for centuries. Gold and silver had been mined on this slope since the Middle Ages, until the last gold mine in Western Europe near Salsigne closed in 2003.
