A unique grape variety for Pio Cesare Gavi
The Cortese grape that forms the basis for this wine is one of Piedmont's most special local grapes. It is sourced exclusively from hillside vineyards in select locations in the Gavi region, belonging to families who have been producing grapes for the Pio Cesare family for generations.
The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio with the goal of bringing the world the potential of great Piedmontese wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera. For five generations, they have been producing their wines in their historic cellars in the historic center of Alba. Today, the winery owns 70 hectares of vineyards in prime locations in the surrounding communities of Serralunga d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, Barolo, La Morra, Treiso, Diano d'Alba, Sinio, and Trezzo.
The grapes are not harvested until early October, after which they are rigorously inspected. Fermentation then takes place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the Pio Cesare Gavi is aged in stainless steel tanks. This results in a wine with maximum fruit and freshness.
A balanced wine from Pio Cesare
The aroma offers an intense impression of spring flowers, citrus fruit, apple, minerals, and a touch of mint. A beautifully dry, full-bodied, balanced, and elegant palate, with a hint of fennel and fresh acidity on the long finish. This Pio Cesare Gavi pairs perfectly with salads, fish, and shellfish.
