Tenute Rossetti Poggio Civetta Chianti Classico DOCG
Poggio Civetta is a Chianti Classico with a Tuscan soul, juicy cherry, violet notes, and a savory, energetic finish, crafted by winemaker Elisabetta Matteini in the Tenute Rossetti cellars. This cuvée showcases how modern craftsmanship and pure provenance complement each other in the glass.
Vineyards and region
The grapes come from Greve in Chianti, the heart of the appellation. Steep slopes with sandy soils produce fragrant, elegant wines, while cool nights and a long growing season at altitude produce ripe fruit with lively acidity. This creates precisely the combination of finesse and depth for which Chianti Classico is renowned.
Vinification and maturation
Harvest takes place by hand between mid-September and mid-October. After gentle crushing, the must macerates on the skins for one to two weeks to develop color, aroma, and fine tannins. This is followed by nine months of aging in a mix of small and large oak barrels, which frames the fruit with subtle spice and texture. The alcohol content is 13.5%, with 3.2 grams of residual sugar and 5.32 grams of total acidity per liter, figures that explain the fresh backbone and drinkability.
Grape composition
Sangiovese complemented by Canaiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sangiovese provides cherry, violet, and lively acidity, Canaiolo rounds out with soft red fruit, and Cabernet Sauvignon adds backbone and spicy depth.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Deep ruby red with purple highlights. The aroma reveals ripe cherry and red plum, with violets and a subtle hint of toasted vanilla. Dry and fresh on the palate with a full body, juicy red fruit, refined tannins, and a pleasantly savory finish. Serve at around 18°C (64°F) with rich tomato pasta dishes, stuffed or roasted chicken, grilled Tuscan sausage or bistecca alla Fiorentina, and with aged hard cheeses.
