Back then, Carlo Antonini already knew this area was a unique spot in Tuscany, and after so many years, the vineyards have become true heroes. Carlo has since passed on his immense passion for wine to his son, Alberto, who, together with his wife Alessandra, strives to elevate everything to an even higher level. He has more than succeeded, as all the wines are enchanting and highly regarded by the international wine press.

A small vineyard of just 26 hectares nurtures this beautiful wine. At an altitude of a hundred meters, the ancient vines for this Chianti Riserva grow. Their deep roots allow them to withstand the hot summer afternoons. The grapes ripen very quickly in the Tuscan mountains, but fortunately, the wind there ensures they receive sufficient cooling. Nighttime temperatures also contribute to the cooling of the grapes, resulting in a long and uneventful growing season. All grapes are harvested by hand and meticulously inspected. Only the finest bunches are picked and transported in small crates to Poggiotondo. After fermentation in oak and concrete vats, this Chianti Riserva is aged for a full twenty months. French oak is used, which plays a significant role in this red wine.

The result is impressive, as this red wine boasts remarkable length and the beautiful refinement of the Chianti region. We begin with the aroma, where we encounter wonderful notes of dark berries, green herbs, and a touch of fresh cherries. The palate is full and complex with abundant soft tannins, while dark berries are quickly enveloped by savory herbs and spices with hints of tar. Later, on the palate, this Poggiotondo Chianti Riserva also reveals nuances of vanilla, oak, and, of course, licorice and chocolate. The long finish makes it a truly worldly pairing with dishes such as red meat, poultry, and soft cheeses.
