Description
A Chianti estate you won't soon forget, as this family winery has been in the Antonini family's hands since 1968. It was Carlo Antonini, the father, who purchased the estate from the noble Guidi family. According to Carlo Antonini, it was the most beautiful part of Tuscany, situated on the Via Francigena, a popular destination for pilgrims. Proof of its beauty is the fact that the entire estate has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013. Carlo has since passed on his great passion for wine to his son, Alberto, who, together with his wife Alessandra, strives to elevate everything to an even higher level. He has more than succeeded, as all the wines are enchanting and highly regarded by the international wine press.
Completely hand-harvested for this Poggiotondo Chianti Superiore
The old vineyard for this Chianti Superiore from Poggiotondo is situated at an altitude of a hundred meters above sea level. This allows the vines to receive plenty of sunshine, but also coolness from the wind and nighttime temperatures. With the right balance of sun-generated warmth and refreshment, a fantastic harvest is achieved. The soil structure is also crucial; this beautiful vineyard contains, among other things, white seashells that give the wines their minerality and energy. At perfect ripeness, all the grapes are harvested by hand and taken to the Poggiotondo press. The bunches arrive in small crates, after which a second selection takes place. Only the finest fruit is good enough for this Chianti Superiore.Wood aging for the Poggiotondo Chianti Superiore
The grapes are first fermented in cement tanks, where they receive their first aromas. This is followed by oak aging in the Poggiotondo cellars, where this Chianti Superiore is aged for a full twenty months in uncharred oak. This long period is crucial for its powerful aroma and flavor. As soon as the cork is removed, we smell abundant notes of black fruit, refined herbs, and a beautiful presence of wood and vanilla. The palate is full and complex, possessing everything you would expect from a perfect Chianti Superiore. Beautiful, deep flavors of cherries and blackberries complemented by delicate herbs, vanilla, nuts, and a touch of balsamic vinegar.Product details
