What a special bottle, this Portal Ten Years Old Aged White Porto! We often see white ports, but not often one that has been aged for ten years in the Portal cellars. The family business has been active in the Douro for years and now owns 95 hectares of its own vineyards. This is quite unique, as other wineries usually buy grapes. That's not the case with Portal Port, which allows the grapes to grow as they please. Today, the port house is led by winemaker Paulo Coutinho and master blender Jeremy Bull. These gentlemen create truly beautiful creations, such as this Ten Years Old Aged White Porto. Portal has no fewer than four Quintas in total: Quinta da Abelheira, Quinta do Confradeiro, Quinta dos Muros, and Quinta do Portal. However, the wine cellar and the old port house are located near the town of Pinhão, the heart of the port region.

Wood aging for the Portal Ten Years Old Aged White

The grapes grow in the best climate and on the most beautiful slopes of the Douro region. This results in a fantastic harvest every year, and a small amount of white port is made. This requires a different approach, and Portal simply wants to make the best white port. Each year, a number of barrels are filled with the white port and a blend is made for this 10-year-old Witt port. The blending process results in an average age of ten years, making this port outstanding. Very full-bodied and complex, it tastes best slightly chilled!

The aroma and taste of the Portal Ten Years Old Aged White Porto

In the glass, it gleams a beautiful golden yellow with a golden rim. The thick texture hints at the depth of this white port. With our noses over the glass, we smell hints of dried peaches, vanilla, woody notes, and some fresh herbs. The palate is truly beautiful, leaving impressions of dried yellow fruit, a bit like tutti fruiti, but also orange, fresh herbs, vanilla, and caramel. Later, as this 10-year-old white port settles, it also reveals nuances of apricot and honey.
