The Pinot Noir "Pounamu" is a red wine from New Zealand's most famous wine region: Marlborough. The grapes come from three plots of just 6 hectares, with soils primarily composed of stone and clay. This variety imparts a unique character, and combined with the ideal weather conditions, it creates an exceptionally delicious wine.

12 months of maturation for Pounamu Special Selection Pinot Noir

Pounamu is the New Zealand McCree family's flagship line, a high-quality line. Their winemaking adventure began in 2002 when Fleur McCree and her husband discovered a 40-hectare sheep farm. This proved to be perfect for viticulture. Eveline Fraser, the winemaker for these wines, has a history with Cloudy Bay Winery, one of New Zealand's flagship wineries and a guarantee of fine wine. The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested partly mechanically and partly by hand in the early morning. This method allows the grapes to be transported to the cellar as quickly as possible and prevents any oxidation. Upon arrival, the grapes are immediately destemmed, lightly crushed, and cold-soaked for several days to enhance their color and aromas. The grapes are then transferred to stainless steel tanks for two weeks of temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation. Pressing then follows, and the young wine is transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. After approximately 12 months, this beautiful Pinot Noir is ready to be enjoyed.

Pounamu's Special Selection Pinot Noir shines ruby ​​red in the glass. We immediately enjoy the delicious aromas of plums, raspberries, roses, herbs, and a hint of smoke. The palate reveals notes of ripe red fruit, fresh mushrooms, and subtle spice. This red wine has an elegant finish with soft tannins and crisp acidity. This wine pairs perfectly with leg of lamb, duck breast, pork tenderloin, or risotto.
