Quinta da Bacalhôa Tinto, a red wine we've fallen in love with, comes from the Bacalhôa winery, located on the Portuguese peninsula of Setúbal. In the beautiful town of Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, we find a lovely winery that's also very popular with tourists. The winery has a long history in Portuguese wines. Over the years, it has grown into one of the largest in Portugal, without losing its traditions and ancient winemaking methods. Naturally, they've modernized the winemaking process even further. In 1998, they took a major step forward when José Berardo took the helm of this beautiful winery. He invested heavily in new grape varieties and entered into a partnership with the Lafitte Rothschild Group. This is certainly reflected in the top wines from this winery, which bear the Quinta da Bacalhôa name.
13 months of wood aging in French oak
A Portuguese red wine made from two well-known grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Yet, these grapes also thrive in Portugal. The vineyards for this red wine are among the winery's oldest. Here, we find both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, deeply rooted in the rich soil. Due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards enjoy a mid-season climate with a perfect balance between warmth and coolness. This coolness comes from the wind that blows across the land from the Adriatic Sea. This excellent balance creates a balanced growing season. When the grapes are perfectly ripe, they are harvested, pressed, and vinified separately. First, the juices undergo a week of skin maceration, after which fermentation begins. After this process, the final blend is assembled and matured for 13 months in French oak barrels. The phenomenal end result is certainly something to be proud of!
Why buy Quinta da Bacalhôa Tinto?
Thick, full, and smooth. That's how we can best describe this Quinta da Bacalhôa tinto. Upon uncorking, our olfactory senses are already being stimulated by the beautiful bouquet. The color is deep ruby red and appears very rich. When we wash the glass properly, wonderful aromas are released. On the nose, we noted aromas of red fruit, combined with nuances of wood and spices. On the palate, the red fruit flavors are amplified and combined with soft tannins. An elegant and complex wine with a fresh finish.
