This Lagrima Red is the sweetest of all Ramon Pinto's ports, containing only 140 grams of sugar per liter. As its name suggests, Lagrima Red comes from the lágrimas (tears) of red wine ( if you'd like to learn more about "tears" in wine, check out this blog post ). With only a light fermentation, it's a very pleasant port. It has a fresh, lively, and fruity aroma. The palate is velvety smooth and has a very long finish.
The Ramos Pinto wineries
Founded in 1880, Ramos Pinto is a classic port winery with a rich history. Quality is always paramount at this winery. They use only grapes from their own vineyards, a practice quite unusual in the Douro. Their philosophy is that the quality of their wines begins in the soil of the Douro region. This principle remains true today, resulting in exceptional wines that can be enjoyed again and again. The Adriano Ramos Pinto Port Winery has two wineries for the production of its "Duas Quintas." The 80-hectare Quinta da Ervamoira is located near the Spanish border on the Rio Côa in the Douro Superior region. Here, the mountains are at their highest, the days are hottest, and the weather is driest. The 50-hectare Quinta dos Bons Ares is approximately 650 meters above sea level, cooler and slightly wetter than Quinta da Ervamoira, and offers unique conditions for red wine production. That's why a new, modern cellar was built here, with temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation tanks and a cool, humid wooden barrel cellar. The rugged mountain ranges of the wild and romantic Douro Valley stretch a hundred kilometers west of the Spanish border.
