The Poggio Landi winery is located in one of Italy's most famous wine regions, the hills of Montalcino. This area produces world-class wines that, along with Barolo and Amarone, are known as the Three Kings of Italy. In 1980, the area received DOCG status, and Poggio Landi played a key role in this achievement. The winery helped put the area on the map and has been producing some of the finest wines for years, including this Rosso di Montalcino. The estate boasts a total of 75 hectares of vineyards, producing two red wines. It has been busy in recent years. The vineyards have undergone extensive development, and additional space has been created in the magnificent wine cellar, where all the wooden barrels are stored. This makes the Poggio Landi winery head and shoulders above the rest.

The old vineyard of Poggio Landi

This red Rosso di Montalcino is made entirely from Sangiovese grapes sourced from an old vineyard. This vineyard is spread across several plots and is situated at an altitude of between 180 and 500 meters. This altitude is crucial for the development of the bunches. The altitude provides the bunches with plenty of coolness, and the grapes enjoy ample sunshine. Poggio Landi produces its grapes with complete respect for nature and is guided by various natural influences. The rare soil structure is one of these, and the grapes receive plenty of nourishment. Once ripe, the harvest is harvested entirely by hand and strictly controlled. Only the finest bunches nourish this red Rosso di Montalcino.

Wood aging for the Poggio Landi Rosso Di Montalcino

Once the harvest is brought in, the grapes are fermented for about 15 days, during which time they become soft and cheerful. This is followed by a crucial period for this red wine, as it is aged for a full twelve months in oak barrels in the Poggio Landi cellars. French oak is used, giving it a powerful and full-bodied character. This is clearly noticeable in the aroma, where we detect hints of forest fruits, spices, and vanilla. On the palate, this Rosso di Montalcino offers a soft character on the tongue with plenty of ripe black and red fruit. Later, and on the back of the palate, a lovely spiciness and some nuances of leather, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla develop.
