Royal Oporto is the flagship brand of Real Companhia Velha. The brand name served as a symbolic translation for the former "Real Companhia Velha," as English wine merchants always called the company "Royal Oporto Wine Company" because of the Royal Charter that granted its founding, its origins in the city of Porto, and, finally, because of its ease of pronunciation. And they make great wines! This Tawny Port is aged for 20 years in the finest old oak barrels to guarantee its beautiful structure and harmonious aromas. During the aging process, the youthful characteristics of fruit aromas and flavors begin to disappear, replaced by subtle, mature notes.
Hand-harvested for Royal Oporto 20 Years Old Tawny
Royal Oporto 20-Year-Old Tawny Port is produced using the traditional Port method. The hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and crushed for fermentation at controlled temperatures, with skin maceration. The timing of fortification is chosen by the winemaker after strictly controlling fermentation temperatures and densities based on the grape variety, stage of maturation, and the desired final sweetness. The final blend is the result of a selection of wines aged between 8 and 22 years, created to preserve the consistency and character of this Royal Oporto 20-Year-Old Tawny Port.
The silky aromas of Royal Oporto 20 Years Old Tawny
Royal Oporto 20 Year Old Tawny Port, a fine port aged for years in oak barrels, gradually loses its original deep purple color and takes on the delicate amber notes known as tawny. During the aging process, the wine gently breathes air through the pores of the oak. The simple fruitiness of a young wine gradually fades, giving way to a wide range of subtle, soft aromas: spices, licorice, walnut, vanilla, ripe jammy fruit, and fine oak. This is precisely the aroma profile of this Royal Oporto 20 Year Old Tawny Port. It displays a rich, velvety texture. All the soft aromas are present, even as the finish reveals a super-fresh and lingering finish.
