Royal Oporto Colheita 2016

This Tawny Port is made from the very best wines from a single vintage. Colheita is the Portuguese word for harvest, in the case of this Royal Oporto from 2016. A key rule is that the wine must be aged for at least seven years in wooden barrels. The bottle label indicates the vintage and the year of bottling.

Royal Oporto is part of Real Companhia Velha, a company with a long history that always strives for the highest possible quality. They own several wineries and 540 hectares of land. It is the oldest winery in Portugal. The steep slopes along the river make this a unique location for growing Port grapes. Royal Oporto produces Ports of a unique varietal, made from grapes grown in the company's own Quintas, with a particular emphasis on aged Tawnies, consistently blended by generations of Cellar Masters at Real Companhia Velha. We consider these Ports to be some of the company's finest treasures. Colheita Ports are a very specific style of aged wines, the result of a rigorous selection of the best grapes of the year, which are featured on the label. These wines are aged for a minimum of seven years in select old oak barrels in our cellars, where they develop a truly distinctive bouquet of intense and complex aromas and a fine, velvety palate. With a style distinct from Vintage Ports, Colheitas are harmoniously aromatic, balanced, and persistent on the palate. The Port style emphasizes the effort and dedication we put into crafting unforgettable wines.

The result after 7 years of wood aging

A beautiful light brown color appears in the glass. This port owes its color to its many years in oak barrels. The aroma is soft yet complex. A sip encompasses a wide palette of flavors. We note notes of dried fruit and spice that are prominent, as well as honey, almond, and mocha. It finishes with a charming, silky texture.
