This is the absolute crown jewel of the Santa Rita winery. And this red wine also embodies Chile's national pride. We're talking, of course, about the Carmenere. Born in Bordeaux but made great thanks to Chilean winemakers. This is a top-notch Carmenere wine where nothing is left to chance. Tasting Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta reveals robust impressions of fresh black fruit with impressive spicy notes. The balance between robustness and freshness is remarkable, making this Pewen de Apalta perhaps Chile's finest wine.

The Carmenere wine from Santa Rita

The Carmenere grapes for this flagship wine come from specially selected plots located in Chile's most impressive wine region, Apalta. The grapes come from vines that are sometimes over 85 years old, resulting in a very small yield. Since 2004, Carmenere grapes from these vines have been used for Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta. Each individual grape is selected year after year under strict supervision, as only the very best are suitable for this top Santa Rita cuvée.

What does Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta taste like?

How does Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta achieve such great success? After the harvest, it's the winemaker's turn, who works tirelessly to create a fine glass of red wine. After the harvest, which begins at the end of March, the grapes are gently crushed and cold fermented for five days. This ensures that, in addition to depth, this Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta also retains some freshness. The real work takes place during the impressive oak aging process. The rich grapes are aged for a full 18 months, with 40% of the French barrels being new. Expect plenty of power and flavor in this Santa Rita Pewen de Apalta.
