Why buy Sonhoek Pinotage rosé?
Before we can enjoy this Sonhoek Pinotage rosé, a lot of work has to be done. Therefore, we travel to the Western Cape in South Africa. Here we find the beautiful vineyards for the Pinotage grapes that nourish this rosé. Pinotage is one of the most famous red grapes in the South African wine industry. What many people don't know, however, is that rosé can also be made from a red grape. Well, Sonhoek proves that this is very possible! The vines have an average age of 10 to 12 years, which means they produce beautiful, young, and fresh bunches. The plants are planted in such a way that they optimally absorb the sun's rays and warmth, but also benefit from the pleasant breeze from the sea. This cooling is certainly necessary, otherwise the grapes would ripen too quickly. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 500 meters, which perfectly combines all these influences. When the grapes reach the right ripeness, they are harvested mechanically. This harvest takes place during February.
The taste of Sonhoek Rosé
Now let the sun shine in our glass! Pouring it confirms the beautiful pink color. On the nose, we noted a wide array of fresh red fruit, such as strawberries and raspberries, with a lovely hint of citrus at the finish. This translates into a deliciously mild rosé with flavor nuances of young red fruit and a fresh undertone. The finish is wonderfully mild and rounded. A true summer gem!
