The name "Morellino" is derived from the Italian word "morella", which means "little black cherry", because of the dark color of the grapes.
Long maturation for Spiaggiole Morellino Di Scansano
The "Spiaggiole" vineyard is located approximately 200 meters above sea level and nestles directly on the first hills, offering stunning views of one of the most beautiful seaside spots on the Maremma coast. The area is renowned for producing the prestigious DOCG Morellino di Scansano, a red wine made from at least 85% Sangiovese grapes, known locally as Morellino. The soil of the "Spiaggiole" vineyard is generous and deep, with a medium texture. This soil composition contributes to the wine's characteristic characteristics, giving it the structure and fruitiness typical of this specific area within the DOCG Morellino di Scansano.
During the harvest, the ripe grapes are handpicked to ensure that only the finest and healthiest grapes are used for winemaking. After harvest, the grapes are taken to the winery and macerated, where they are exposed to a temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius for approximately 10 to 12 days. After maceration, malolactic fermentation follows, which takes place in steel tanks. After this, the wine is transferred to steel tanks for aging. The wine is aged in these tanks for at least six months to further develop and stabilize its flavors. After aging in steel tanks, the wine is bottled and aged in the bottle for at least another six months before being released.
