Vinification and grapes
The Statella Etna Rosso Bio 2022 is made from Nerello Mascalese and a small amount of Nerello Cappuccio , the classic grapes for Etna Rosso. The wine is fully certified organic. The grapes come from vineyards on the slopes of Etna, where the volcanic soil and altitude impart freshness and minerality. Harvesting is done by hand to select grapes in optimal condition. Vinification is traditional: fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and aging partly in larger French oak barrels (500L) and partly in steel tanks, to preserve the pure expression of the grapes and their volcanic character.
The winery
Fabio and Marilena Statella are the driving forces behind the estate. Fabio Statella is known as one of Sicily's most experienced oenologists and worked for many years at Tenuta delle Terre Nere, one of Etna's iconic wineries. With their own project, they combine organic farming, old vines, and minimal intervention in the cellar. Their wines are praised for their balance of elegance and the characteristic power of Etna Rosso.
Volume 2022
According to the vintage chart for Etna Rosso 2022, this is an excellent vintage with firm tannins and slow aging potential. This means the wines are highly structured and ideal for aging. For Statella, this results in a wine that is already refined but will develop further in complexity in the coming years.
Wine and food
Statella Etna Rosso Bio 2022 is a wonderful pairing with dishes featuring refined yet robust flavors. Think roasted lamb chops, pasta with mushrooms and truffle, or grilled tuna with Mediterranean herbs. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses like pecorino and caciocavallo.
