The wines of Stift Klosterneuburg
The Stift Kloster Neuburg winery is one of the oldest wineries in the world. Count Leopold III commissioned the construction of the monastery in 1114, which would later become the radiant center of the winery. What makes Stift Klosterneuburg unique is its creative flair and willingness to stray from the beaten path. They dare to experiment and innovate, which is why you often find a unique style of Austrian wine in their selection. However, with Stift Kloster Neuburg Gruner Veltliner Reserve, they stay true to the basics: Gruner Veltliner. But at its very best.
Klosterneuburg Abbey has amassed several unique vineyards in and around Vienna over its 900-year history. Each one is more beautiful than the last. However, the most valuable is the Steinreigel vineyard, located in Lower Austria. This vineyard boasts a unique soil structure of weathered sandstone and loess. Combined with the perfect location of the Single Vineyard, this allows the old vines of Gruner Veltliner to flourish here. Thick, full, firm bunches produce a powerful and complex wine, with much more character than a regular Gruner Veltliner.
Impressions of Stift Kloster Neuburg Gruner Veltliner Reserve
After manual harvesting and careful fermentation, Stift Kloster Neuburg Gruner Veltliner Reserve undergoes a special oak aging process. This takes place in 500-liter Mahartsberger oak barrels for eight months. This gives this Steinriegel Gruner Veltliner a unique palate. A soft acidity envelops notes of juicy apples, subtle mango, and other tropical fruits. With every sip, the minerals and aromas tickle your taste buds. The finish reveals an intense bouquet that gives Stift Kloster Neuburg Gruner Veltliner Reserve a touch of spice. Truly the pinnacle of Austrian wines, and in our opinion, it deserves the highest spot on the podium.
