Speaking of sweet treats. This Riesling from the renowned Stift Klosterneuburg winery combines the craftsmanship, passion, and experience of this winery in a glass of exquisite Riesling. Stift Kloster Neuburg Ried Franzhauser Riesling emphasizes the underrated character of Riesling, which is particularly world-famous in Alsace. In recent decades, this grape has increasingly migrated eastward through German vineyards. Authorities in the field of German wines have therefore wholeheartedly embraced Riesling.

The wines of Stift Klosterneuburg

The winery has several vineyards, primarily located in the eastern part of the country. The vineyards surrounding the monastery, founded in 1114 by Count Leopold III, have a particularly good reputation. At the Klosterneuburg estate, you'll primarily find Gruner Veltliner, but the winemaker has reserved a special area for the complex Riesling. The vines bearing Riesling grapes are located on the Franzhauser vineyard. This distinctive vineyard boasts a rich soil rich in hard sandstone, something Riesling thrives on. Furthermore, the Franzhauser vineyard is also the steepest vineyard at Klosterneuburg Abbey. Because the south-facing slopes receive plenty of sun and are protected from the damaging northerly winds, creating optimal conditions for Riesling to grow.

Impressions of Stift Kloster Neuburg Ried Franzhauser Riesling

This so-called Single Vinayard wine boasts a unique palette thanks to the unique terroir in which the vines grow. The grape selection is strict—very strict. Only the finest bunches are allowed to become part of Stift Kloster Neuburg Ried Franzhauser Riesling. Despite the Riesling's aging potential, the winemaker opted for aging in stainless steel, precisely because the grape is already so powerful. You're treated to intense aromas of apricots, peaches, and nectarines. All of this is enveloped in a sauce of soft minerals and vibrant acidity. A unique Austrian wine unlike any other.
