Tenuta di Tavignano is located in the village of Cingoli in the heart of the Marche region. The lands and vineyards were purchased in 1970 by Stefano Aymerich and his wife Beatrice. Stefano was a nobleman with roots in Sardinia but was captivated by the landscape of inland Italy. The Tenuta di Tavignano winery is situated on a hill overlooking the valley, just north of Jesi. The Musone River is also visible from the Tenuta, and it plays a significant role in the wines of the Marche region. Tenuta di Tavignano is now in the process of being taken over by his niece, Ondine, in a few years. This is fortunate, as the wines are very promising and are made with the utmost precision.

Wood bearing for the Tavignano Cervidoni Rosso Piceno

In total, the Tenuta di Tavignano winery has 230 hectares of land, of which only thirty hectares are planted as vineyards. This gives the vineyards ample space to fully develop. All vineyards are planted on steep slopes, creating unique airflow. The wind from the mountaintops provides additional cooling for the Rosso Piceno harvest. This is essential, as it can get very hot there during summer days. The vines are rooted in a rich soil, rich in sand, stone, and limestone, contributing to the unique harvest. When the Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes are ripe, they are harvested by hand and rigorously selected. Only the finest bunches are used in this red wine. After pressing, this Cervidoni Rosso Piceno is aged for an impressive six months in oak barrels in the Tenuta di Tavignano cellars. Its development, and the oak barrels, give this red wine its unique style.

The aroma and taste of the red Tavignano wine

The end result is stunning and beautifully smooth. The aroma evokes marasca cherries with jam and a hint of plum and spice. The palate is initially very soft and creamy with plenty of black fruit, but on the back of the tongue, all the rich aromas of spice, oak, vanilla, and plum emerge.
