Anyone who didn't know better might think of a glass of rosé from France. But nothing could be further from the truth, because this Pinotage rosé actually hails from the west coast of South Africa. The winemaker at Teezen truly surprises us with this rosé. The winery is still relatively young, but in just a few years it has already conquered the world. Especially with the price-quality ratio, which is truly outstanding.
The high vineyard of Teezen
Pinotage is planted on Teezen's highest vineyard. This is because a great deal of freshness is needed to make a good rosé. This freshness during the growing season comes primarily from the sea breeze that constantly blows through the vineyards, as well as from the sharp drop in nighttime temperatures during the growing process. This allows the Pinotage bunches to develop slowly and evenly, developing a wealth of flavor in the wine. After much hard work in the vineyards, it's time to bring in the harvest. This takes place at night to preserve the freshness in the bunches and minimize bruising during transport. Once arrived at the Teezen winery, all bunches are inspected, and only the finest are pressed. The skins ferment briefly to achieve the beautiful, fresh, and light color.
The smell and taste of the Teezen Pinotage Rose
Pouring it reveals a beautiful salmon pink color with a slight red sheen. It has a rich aroma, reminiscent of notes of strawberry and ripe banana. The taste is beautifully fresh, with a lovely citrusy note on the palate, complemented by red fruit. Later, some peach and red flower notes emerge. The flavor continues to surprise us, because how can it be at this price point? So, we have to conclude, "Don't ask how it's possible, just enjoy it."
