Teliani Valley Glekhuri Kisiskhevi Saperavi Qvevri, Kakheti
Saperavi with a pure Georgian soul: deep ruby red, ripe cherry and red berry notes, a full body with supple tannins, and a long, layered finish. Origin is especially important here, as this cuvée hails from Kisiskhevi in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, where Saperavi has been setting the tone for centuries.
Vineyards and region
Kisiskhevi lies in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia's largest and most important wine region. The temperate climate, with abundant sunshine and cool nights, produces ripe fruit with vibrant acidity. Saperavi is the leading grape variety for red wines here, prized for its color, strength, and aromatic depth.
Vinification and maturation
Made using the traditional qvevri method in buried clay amphorae. What exactly is qvevri, and what does it taste like? In qvevri, wine and skins ferment and mature together, resulting in natural extraction, a pure texture, and added depth without oak accents. The wine is deliberately unfiltered to preserve maximum aromatic intensity and mouthfeel, a choice that may result in some sediment in the bottle. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. Alcohol 13.5 percent.
Grape composition
Saperavi 100 percent from Kisiskhevi. Saperavi is an indigenous wine with dark-colored juice, known for its intense color, dark fruit, and natural, ripe texture.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Dark ruby red. The aroma reveals Amarena cherry, red berries, and oriental spices with a spicy undertone. The palate is full and supple with ripe tannins, well-balanced acidity, and a long, clean finish. Pair with steak, venison with sautéed mushrooms, game stew, or savory, mature cheeses. Ages approximately 5 years in good conditions.
