The Thelema Mountain Red is a blend of Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Grenache, and Cabernet Franc. This fruity yet complex red wine from South Africa is wonderfully accessible. The individual grape varieties were aged for 18 months in second, third, and fourth-tier oak barrels.

The world-famous wines of Thelema

Thelema Mountain Vineyards, a family-owned winery nestled on the spectacular Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch, is home to Thelema and Sutherland Vineyards Wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated on the 42 hectares of vineyards. Thelema's world-renowned wines are astonishing with their distinct elegance and beautiful fruity notes. Owner and winemaker Gyles Webb purchased the Thelema estate in 1983, which was then a charming old fruit farm in need of care and attention. The old fruit trees had to be removed and vines were planted. The first wines under the Thelema label were released in 1988, and by the mid-1990s, Thelema wines had become so popular that new vintages were completely sold out within a month of their release.

Enjoy a soft, fruity and round cuvée

The Thelema Mountain Red is what you would call a second wine in France. Gyles Webb has further refined the criteria for the casks used in the Thelema range, allowing for further quality enhancements and reduced quantities. The casks that didn't make the cut are now used in the Mountain Red. This cuvée is soft, fruity, rounded, and generally more approachable than its varietal namesakes. Aromas of warming spices and ripe mulberries combine beautifully with ripe plum notes to create a soft and inviting drink. As the icing on the cake, it also impresses with its extremely compelling price-performance ratio.
