A prime example of how the Sauvignon Blanc grape has been fully developed in the South African wine region. This white wine from Thelema is undoubtedly one of the best in our range; vibrant, fresh, and smooth—those are its characteristics. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown in Stellenbosch, where they receive plenty of sunshine, but also cool nighttime temperatures and sea breezes. This allows the Sauvignon Blanc to retain its fresh character.
The exceptional wines of Themela
The phoenix, or firebird, often depicted with scarlet and gold plumage, is an ancient mythological creature that has appeared in various cultures as a symbol of rebirth, immortality, and renewal. Thelema is a prime illustration of South Africa's recent wine renaissance. Gyles and Barbara Webb's beautiful farm is located in the Helshoogte Pass, nestled in the southern folds of the Simonsberg Mountains in the Stellenbosch region, and houses an exceptionally efficient, modern cellar.
In July 1983, the McLean Family Trust purchased the old Thelema fruit farm. This acquisition marked the culmination of a long search by Gyles and Barbara Webb for that rare location where exceptional wines could be made, for this was their sole purpose. Five years later, a winery was completed, and almost immediately, his wines were among the best the country had to offer. Gyles's winemaking was influenced by visits to Tuscany, Bordeaux, and California. Gyles Webb, a former accountant turned winemaker with vision and flair, helped Thelema grow from rickety orchards into a South African success story.
Enjoy the fruity Sauvignon Blanc from Thelema
The South African winery Thelema deliberately left this Sauvignon Blanc unaged. This is to allow the fruitiness of the white wine to truly shine. A remarkable wine from the renowned winery, which uses only grapes from its own vineyards. This is clearly noticeable on the nose, as upon opening, you immediately encounter a vibrant bouquet of green apple, bell pepper, fresh mint, and citrus fruit. This fresh style continues in the palate of this Thelema Sauvignon Blanc, which is stimulating on the tongue with hints of citrus fruit, green herbs like mint, and hints of grapefruit and gooseberry.
