Winemaker Willi Stürz has made Cantina Tramin Kellerei a huge success in recent years. He has a unique knack for spotting the right spots and has invested heavily in the modern winery and, of course, in the vineyards of no fewer than three hundred winegrowers. Cantina Tramin Kellerei is a cooperative with approximately three hundred winegrowers. With all their knowledge of the South Tyrol/Alto Adige wine region, Tramin has become a success. Each farmer has a share in the wines and simply wants to grow the best Pinot Grigio grapes. And they've succeeded, as competition is fierce, but they make the difference with the excellent quality of their Pinot Grigio.
From a very high vineyard
The Pinot Grigio grapes for this white wine come from a very high vineyard. The bases of the vines are situated at an altitude of four hundred meters, which translates to excellent quality. But that's not all, because the roots are in calcareous clay and gravel soil, allowing them to easily absorb moisture. This is crucial, as summers in this wine region can be very hot. The fresh breeze blowing through the vineyards adds an extra dimension to the harvest. The coolness ensures a long and consistent growing season without the grapes losing their freshness.
The aroma and taste of the Tramin Pinot Grigio
Once the Pinot Grigio grapes have reached their full ripeness, they are harvested early in the morning to prevent damage and oxidation to the bunches. The Pinot Grigio grapes arrive in small crates at Cantina Tramin Kellerei and are placed on sorting tables. A strict selection process follows, as only the finest bunches are used to create their signature Pinot Grigio. A truly special Pinot Grigio that captures all the temperament of Italy. It all begins upon opening the bottle; we immediately smell the Italian sun with hints of citrus fruit and apple. In the glass, all the aromas are released, and besides citrus fruit and apple, we also noted nuances of peach and pear. The palate is wonderfully fresh on the palate with plenty of white and citrus fruit. On the back of the tongue, this Tramin Pinot Grigio also reveals hints of mint leaves and lovely minerals.
