Pure class is what we can rightly call the wines of Cantina Tramin Kellerei. Since 1898, they have been producing the finest wines from the South Tyrol/Alto Adige wine region. A total of three hundred winegrowers are involved in the vinification of Tramin wines. Since its founding, it has been a cooperative, with all winegrowers contributing their share to the fine wines. Over the years, significant investment has been made in a modern winery, and the vineyards have reached new heights. With the addition of world-renowned winemaker Willi Stürz, the winery has become the "Grand Cru" of northern Italy. It's no wonder that Cantina Tramin Kellerei has won numerous awards in recent years.
The best white wine from Pinot Grigio
Because the quality of the harvests was soaring, winemaker Willi Stürz also recognized the potential for a single-vineyard wine. He selected the oldest vines, filled with Pinot Grigio, to create their flagship wine, the Unterebner. This Unterebner Pinot Grigio Tramin is named after the historic Unterebner farm and vineyard. The vines here rise to an altitude of approximately 450 meters, planted in calcareous soil of gravel and clay. The vines are guaranteed optimal ventilation thanks to the Ora, a wind that blows from Lake Garda in the early afternoon during the growing season.
Wood aging for the Unterebner Pinot Grigio
Once the harvest has reached its peak ripeness, all the grapes are harvested one by one. Everything is done entirely by hand to bring the quality of this white wine to its peak. After pressing, this white wine is aged for a full eleven months in oak barrels. So, this is no ordinary glass of Pinot Grigio! After aging, this Unterebner Pinot Grigio is bottled and stored for three months in the cellars of Cantina Tramin Kellerei. Only when the wine is at its peak can we enjoy it, and we do so with full gusto. On the nose, this Unterebner has impressions of pear and hay, toasted bread with melted butter, and spicy notes of tobacco, vanilla, and incense. The taste is full and very powerful, with many recurring aromas from the nose accompanied by a lovely juiciness. The finish is long and very firm.
