Monastrell Almansa DO 'Marius' Single Vineyard – Monastrell with power and finesse

The Monastrell 'Marius' Single Vineyard is a characterful red wine from Almansa, southeastern Spain. This modern interpretation of the classic Monastrell is produced by Bodegas Piqueras and comes from a single, high-altitude vineyard: Timoranes. Thanks to the combination of old vines, careful vinification, and aging in fine French oak, this wine delivers intensity, ripe fruit, and remarkable freshness.

Vineyards and region: Timoranes Vineyard, Almansa DO

The grapes come from the 30-hectare Timoranes vineyard , located at an altitude of 800 to 900 meters . The soil is sandy, poor, and rich in limestone. The vines are 40 to 60 years old , with low yields and high aromatic concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand in October , at the moment of full ripeness.

Vinification and maturation: modern extraction and subtle wood notes

After three weeks of skin maceration, the must is slowly fermented. The temperature is controlled, initially rising to 29°C , then decreasing to 23°C to preserve the fruit. The wine then matures for six months in 300-liter French Allier oak barrels , medium-toasted. This aging adds structure, roundness, and subtle vanilla notes.

Tasting notes: depth, fruit and balance

The wine has a deep ruby ​​red color . The nose opens with aromas of black plums, blueberries, white pepper, licorice, and sasafras , with a light hint of wood. On the palate, the wine is rich and supple, with fresh acidity, well-integrated tannins, and a long, juicy finish. The result is powerful and concentrated, yet remains elegant and vibrant.

Serving suggestions: rich and gastronomically versatile

This Monastrell is ideal with stewed rabbit with plums, pepper steak, wild duck, or mature cheeses . Serve between 15 and 18°C .
