The Carmenere grape, Chile's national pride, is the star of this exquisite Ventisquero wine. Sourced from the renowned Colchagua Valley, these carefully hand-harvested grapes are aged for ten months in oak barrels. This aging period transforms the Ventisquero Reserva Carmenere into a powerful wine with velvety-smooth flavors.
Ventisquero: A New Generation of Winemaking
Chile boasts both historic wineries and modern pioneers. Vina Ventisquero belongs to the latter group. Under the leadership of Gonzalo Vial, this ambitious project was launched with a state-of-the-art winery in the Maipo Valley and surrounding vineyards. Plantations in the Casablanca Valley and Apalta Valley soon followed. Using the latest technologies and innovative methods, Ventisquero produces top-quality wines.
The grapes reach optimal ripeness after a mild winter and abundant sunshine, after which they are harvested manually in April or May. These ideal conditions produce grapes full of fresh fruit and perfect acidity.
The Maturation of Ventisquero Reserva Carmenere
After pre-fermentative maceration at low temperatures to accentuate the deep color and rich aromas, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks. A full 70% of this wine then enjoys a ten-month aging in French oak, followed by an additional three months in bottle.
This Carmenere presents itself in a beautiful cherry-red hue with hints of chestnut brown. The bouquet reveals a rich blend of black and red fruits, including blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, strawberries, and cherries. These fruity notes are perfectly complemented by spicy notes, chocolate, tobacco, and vanilla. The Ventisquero Reserva Carmenere is harmonious, with a full body, soft tannins, and an elegant, lingering finish. A true treat for any wine lover!
