Moncaro's finest wine is called the Vigna Novali. The Verdicchio grapes give this wine a full and deep character! We can safely leave the winemaking to the winemakers at Moncaro. Quality has been paramount since the winery's inception. And you can definitely taste that in this Vigna Novali Verdicchio Classico.
Modern winemaking at Moncaro
Moncaro - Terre Cortesi was founded around 1970 and now boasts 900 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are located in areas including the Castello di Jesi area and the new DOC Esino. Quality has been a recurring theme throughout its history. Year after year, the winery has strived to improve quality. This has resulted in lower yields per hectare, resulting in more powerful and concentrated grapes. Furthermore, modern vinification equipment has been acquired and additional investments have been made to further enhance expertise. This has significantly improved the quality of the wines.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is permitted to use up to 15 percent Malvasia and Trebbiano, but the trend is clearly toward 100 percent Verdicchio. Moncaro uses only 100 percent of this grape variety in his Verdicchios. Thanks to the hard work in the vineyard, powerful and interesting examples emerge, such as this Vigna Novali. The grapes are harvested late, which gives them extra sugar and power. Some grapes are already affected by noble rot at the time of harvest, which adds complexity to the wine. Partially overripe grapes undergo a short cold maceration, and after fermentation with indigenous yeasts, it remains on the lees for 18 months. The result is a very elegant Verdicchio, suitable for special occasions and definitely worth trying.
