Villa di Zano Chianti Classico 2021
On the historic Villa di Zano estate, overlooking Greve in Chianti, the Folonari family produces a Chianti Classico made entirely from Sangiovese. This wine comes from the heart of Chianti Classico and combines spiciness, ripe red fruit, and refined dry tannins in a style that appears classic and harmonious. The aging after fermentation gives it extra rest and structure, without pushing the wine's sunny character into the background.
Vineyards and region
The origin plays a larger role here than just the appellation name on the label.
- Location / Origin: Villa di Zano is located in Greve in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, approximately 30 km south of Florence. This immediately gives this wine a clear place within the historical heart of the appellation.
- Vineyard: The grapes come from the best vineyards in the Chianti region. This wine consciously opts for a terroir-driven style within the estate.
Vinification and aging
The cellar approach here is classic and streamlined, so that Sangiovese and its origin remain fully in focus.
- Fermentation: After fermentation, the wine first remains in stainless steel tanks. This helps keep the fruit clear and precise before the wine gains further structure.
- Aging / Wood aging: The wine then matures in Slovenian oak barrels. This aging provides more roundness and harmony, while the spiciness and dry character of the finish remain beautifully intact.
Grape composition
Here, everything revolves around 1 grape that shows its most recognizable face in Chianti Classico.
- Sangiovese – Chianti Classico: Sangiovese forms the complete base and gives the wine its spicy aroma, ripe red fruit notes, and refined dry tannins.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Deep in color, with a spicy nose and a distinctly sun-drenched character. On the palate, this Chianti Classico is harmonious and well-balanced, with ripe red fruit and a refined, dry tannin structure. The finish remains classic, smooth, and pleasantly long.
- Dishes: Meat dishes, poultry, and cheeses pair very naturally with this wine, as it has sufficient spiciness and structure to beautifully accompany savory flavors.
More information about A&G Folonari
The Folonari family has been active in the Italian wine world since 1825, making them one of Tuscany's historic names. In 1967, the family purchased the di Zano estate in Greve in Chianti, having previously played a significant role in Ruffino and later in the early development of Super Tuscans through Cabreo. Their vision remains strongly terroir-driven: not the family name, but the uniqueness of the vineyard must remain recognizable in the wine.
