Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in Bolgheri is characterized as early ripening and approachable with a score of 89 points. This indicates a year in which the wines already show good balance and drinkability at an early stage.
Pure class from the Bolgheri wine region, and every wine connoisseur knows that truly full-bodied and powerful wines are made here. Wines from the Bolgheri region easily cost over €20, but they're worth every penny. This red wine from Viticcio, too, is a kind of Bentley: classy and chic, yet stunningly beautiful and firmly grounded. That's quite a compliment for this red wine.

The old vineyard of Viticcio Bolgheri

The very old vineyard is located along the coast in Maremma. Here, the ancient vines grow in a soil of sand and sandstone, allowing them to develop deep roots. This allows the harvest to withstand the region's hot summers. The fresh sea breeze provides the necessary cooling, resulting in a long growing season. The bunches ripen evenly on the very old vines, and this wine is made from a premium blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. A kind of Margaux from Italy, if you will. The wine is made up of over 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing it to age well in the bottle for years.

Wood aging for the Viticcio Bolgheri

Once the harvest is ripe, the bunches are meticulously harvested by hand. Only the finest bunches nurture this premium wine. The entire wine is then aged in 225L oak barrels for at least 12 months, after which the wine is allowed to rest for another 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Once the juice is bottled, it's not immediately drinkable; further aging in the bottle is essential. Our stock has already undergone this process, making it perfectly drinkable.

The flavors and aromas from this red wine

Joy filled our cheeks as we removed the cork, as it immediately revealed a warm bouquet of aromas of coffee, cocoa, and sour cherry, with a rich, wet earthy undertone. In the glass, it's dark red with a slight purple rim—yes, we have a gem in our glass. Swirl this wine, or even better, decant it, to release all the aromas. We noted hints of black fruit, vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate, and a touch of cherry. On the palate, this wine explodes—so many flavors of a top wine. We won't spoil it; experience it for yourself! SSSTTTT, don't tell anyone, we only have one pallet.
