Warwick Estate was already familiar with Sauvignon Blanc, but with this "First Lady Sauvignon Blanc," they wanted to chart a new course for this magnificent grape. Warwick sources its Sauvignon Blanc grapes from a winemaker friend, as they boast the best vineyards filled with Sauvignon Blanc. In the warm climate of South Africa, the grapes thrive. Fortunately, there's the breeze and cool nighttime air, which provide refreshment, which the grapes need. The difference between day and night temperatures is often significant, making the final harvest invaluable.
Completely hand-harvested for this Sauvignon Blanc from Warwick
Sauvignon Blanc is harvested early in the season to preserve as much freshness and light acidity as possible. Harvesting takes place very early in the morning while the grapes are still dormant. This is done to maintain the wine's excellent acidity and to reduce the risk of bruising during transport to Warwick. Once at the press, the grapes undergo a gentle and calm pressing, after which the rich juice is aged in steel vats. This process creates a wine that captures the essence of the Sauvignon's fresh fruit, in all its vibrancy.
