Villa Maria Chardonnay Private Bin is a white wine from this winery's East Coast series. East Coast is a designation created to blend wines from the North Island with those from the South Island. This is a significant advantage for the Chardonnay grape. The North Island has a significantly warmer climate than the South Island, giving these grapes a much fuller fruit content. The South Island, on the other hand, produces good grapes with beautiful, fresh characteristics. In short, this is sure to be a perfect blend! Because the East Coast designation has been officially established, winemakers can utilize the best of both islands, and consumers know exactly what to expect.

Villa Maria Chardonnay grapes come from the East Coast

The grapes for this delicious Chardonnay from Villa Maria come from Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, and Marlborough. Harvesting for this white wine takes place in mid-March and is done entirely by hand. After pressing, some of the white wine is aged in oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel. This results in a beautifully full-bodied and creamy Chardonnay that is certainly not too heavy, or, as the winemaker himself calls it, a "Full-Bodied Wine." The golden yellow color is suggestive. The nose has beautiful, intense aromas of exotic fruits like banana and pineapple, with a hint of vanilla. The palate is rich and full with a creamy hue. The oak aging produces lovely nuances of vanilla, rich hints of mango, pineapple, and banana. The finish is smooth, rich, and slightly buttery.
