A truly special wine, this white Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Fons Aaldering. He chose a small vineyard of just 3.22 hectares in Stellenbosch for his Sauvignon Blanc planting. At an altitude of approximately 150 meters above sea level, the climate was perfect for a top-class Sauvignon Blanc that would rival, for example, a Sancerre. Well, Fons, we think he's succeeded quite nicely. The vineyard is now 12 years old and producing a magnificent harvest. That's what he envisioned, but he never imagined it would be so incredibly good. Thanks in part to the rich soil rich in granite, the vines and grapes develop their own unique style and beautiful, full aromas and flavors.

In recent years, the Sauvignon Blanc harvests have improved even further, thanks to Mr. Aaldering's dedication. After all, paying close attention to the plants simply results in better results. Early in the season, the harvest is initiated by a whole team, with manual harvesting beginning very early in the morning. Each bunch is inspected and transported to Aaldering in small crates. There, the bunches await a gentle pressing, and this Sauvignon Blanc undergoes a long aging process in the Aaldering cellars. This white wine is perfectly described as tranquil and refined, making it a solid contender for a Sancerre.

The aroma and taste of the Aaldering Sauvignon Blanc

Vibrant, fresh, mineral, and full of emotion—that was the first thing we noted when we tasted this beautiful Aaldering Sauvignon Blanc. A unique piece of work, as Sauvignon Blanc isn't widely grown in South Africa. But wines made from it are often unique, but for this Aaldering Sauvignon Blanc, we want to write UNIQUE in capital letters. A superbly beautiful, fresh Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of gooseberry, passion fruit, pineapple, and grapefruit. The taste of this Aaldering Sauvignon Blanc is very, very pure. Hints of fresh lime, kiwi, and passion fruit are evident. The distinct minerality further enhances these flavors, with flint, in particular, being very noticeable.
