Vintage Report

The 2020 vintage in South Africa received an excellent score of 92 points. The wines from this year are characterized as still tannic, youthful, or slow-maturing.
This red wine blend is part of the Nederburg Heroes series and is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec grapes. The different grape varieties are vinified separately, resulting in a wonderfully unique wine!

The quality of the vineyard

With the Nederburg Heroes series, this winery pays tribute to personalities who have made their mark on South African winemaking. All wines in this series are crafted with a focus on innovation in technique and grape selection. Nederburg The Brew Master takes its name from Johann Graue, the revolutionary German winemaker from Nederburg. Through careful grape selection and the introduction of cold fermentation, he laid the foundation for the winery's continued success. He was one of the first to understand that the foundation for quality lies in the vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Groenekloof near Darling, on Tukulu soil that is rich in clay and water-retaining. Durbanville produces the Merlot. Malbec and Petit-Verdot are harvested in Paarl from granite and stony clay soils, respectively. The grapes are vinified separately. The must ferments partly in open vats and partly in stainless steel. Even after fermentation, the grape skins remain in contact with the young wine for some time. Before bottling, the young wine is aged for eighteen months in French oak.

A full-bodied red wine with powerful and velvety tannins

The Brew Master flows into the glass with an intense red and impresses with its complex bouquet, combining concentrated notes of dark fruit and currants with nuances of tobacco leaf and a hint of vanilla. This full-bodied red wine is exceptionally complex on the palate. The beautiful fruity notes are paired with powerful yet velvety tannins, which will give the Nederburg The Brew Master an even softer mouthfeel over time. This red wine pairs well with dark meat and game. But it also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, stews, and rich pasta dishes.
