The 2023 vintage in South Africa received an excellent rating of 90 points. The wines from this year are currently still youthful and need time to fully mature.

A fortified red wine that will make you fall in love with this phenomenal winery. It's undoubtedly the craftsmanship, which has endured for over a century, that gives Oupa se Wyn Weltevrede its fantastic quality. Philip Jonker is currently at the helm of Weltevrede, which remains a family business to this day. With over 160 hectares of vineyards, Weltevrede is a leader in Robertson.

The special vineyard of Oupa se Wyn

The special nature of this wine is largely attributable to the vineyard itself. The Muscat grapes in this vineyard were planted as early as 1926 and continue to produce top-quality grapes today. The yield is low, but the quality is sky-high! Moreover, this Weltevrede vineyard is the only vineyard in South Africa designated a protected landscape by the National Monuments Commission. Oupa se Wyn is also a tribute to Weltevrede's founder, Klaas Jonker, as his portrait appears on the label.

Oupa se Wyn Weltevrede is a fortified wine. After harvest, the grapes ferment briefly on the skins. After 24 hours, they are pressed, and alcohol is added to halt fermentation. This ensures that Oupa se Wyn Weltevrede remains deliciously sweet and full-bodied.
