Vintage Report

The 2022 South African wine vintage has been rated 92 points, indicating excellent quality. The wines from this year are currently still youthful and show good potential for further development.
This Survivor Wild Yeast Chardonnay, aged for an impressive 14 months in oak, is pure craftsmanship. A truly unforgettable wine, and those who appreciate a full-bodied, thick, and creamy Chardonnay will be absolutely delighted with this white wine. Behind the Survivor winery lies the powerhouse Overhex Wines, and they're no strangers to us. They craft wines full of passion and fire, with a great deal of respect for nature. The label is also inspired by this, as in the foreground we see an indigenous Nguni cow, the traditional Zulu cattle. These cows can still be found among the vineyards today, a result of several cows jumping off the truck during transport. This happened years ago, and the cows sought their fortune in the Swartland region. These days, the indigenous Nguni cows are an indispensable part of the landscape, defining the landscape. The label's history is the inspiration for this cow, and it's beautifully executed.

Wood aging for the Survivor Wild Yeast Chardonnay

The Chardonnay grapes come from various vineyards in the Swartland region, giving this white wine greater diversity and power. While all the vineyards in the Swartland region have very low yields, the bunches that are harvested are of unparalleled quality. Once the grapes have fully absorbed the surrounding environment and are ripe, they are hand-harvested early in the morning. Each bunch is inspected, and only the finest are selected to create this Survivor Wild Yeast Chardonnay. After pressing, this white wine undergoes a remarkable 14 months of oak aging in the Survivor cellars. And what a wine! Wow, a truly young one!

Full and very powerful this Survivor Chardonnay

A full-bodied, powerful Chardonnay aged for 11 months in oak, and you can taste it! The aroma is full and powerful, with hints of apricots, roasted nuts, toast, vanilla, and yellow cream. The Chardonnay grapes are grown in the warm Swartland wine region, where they receive plenty of sun and develop into firm and plump grapes! This is clearly noticeable in the taste: full and powerful, with plenty of tropical fruit, apricots, vanilla, yellow cream, and a hint of lime zest! A truly exceptional wine.
