The Langhe Rosso is the Vaira family's foundation wine and also their signature wine. It's considered one of the finest Italian red wines in its price range. The utmost care is taken throughout the entire process, from vineyard cultivation and harvest to winemaking.

Sustainable and organic wine cultivation by Vajra

In 1971, Aldo Vaira was one of the first to adopt organic farming in Piedmont. Vineyards have been cultivated for almost 50 years, and the soil is preserved by grass cover. With an incredible ratio of manual labor per hectare, farming at Vaira is a labor of love and a "recipe-free" approach. Intensive research is also conducted to monitor and enhance the biodiversity of both flora and fauna, not only in the vineyards but also in the vineyards and forests. The winery is sustainable and organically certified.

The vinification of Langhe Rosso

Where Aldo Vaira once started with the family vineyard, the company's ownership has grown over the years to over 40 hectares. Fortunately, Vajra's range isn't limited to Nebbiolo alone: by also nurturing vineyards with Dolcetto and Barbera, they are able to produce very high-quality wines from these. Vajra makes its Langhe Rosso from Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Small quantities of Albarossa, Freisa, and Pinot Noir are also used. Grapes from young vines are used for this wine. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness. Fermentation lasts nineteen days and is followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. After vinification, aging takes place for 14 to 16 months, primarily in stainless steel barrels, with a small amount in neutral oak barrels. The wine is violet-red and has aromas of red fruit and plums, as well as floral and spicy notes. The palate is complemented by hints of almond and pepper. A pleasant freshness provides balance. A delicious wine with pasta with meat and sausage sauces, braised meat, and lamb.
