Meerlust has been owned by the Myburgh family since 1756. The eighth generation is now at the helm, and together with cellar master Chris Williams, the estate continues its success. The name Meerlust means "The Joy of the Sea," and the estate is located just five kilometers from False Bay. The historic buildings on the estate bear witness to the impressive history of the family and the land. Since 1987, the Meerlust Winery has been a South African national monument.
After a rigorous selection of the finest grapes, fermentation takes place in oak barrels, half of which are new. The wine then matures for at least another 10 months in oak barrels before bottling and marketing. This craftsmanship results in a full-bodied and pure Chardonnay.
The Meerlust Chardonnay has a rich aroma of tropical fruit, pear, citrus, and floral notes, which develop into notes of pastry cream, oatmeal, and marzipan. The palate is full and robust, with a mix of citrus fruit, marzipan, creamy oak, apple, and pear. The fresh acidity and minerals give the wine beautiful structure and support. The long, clean finish completes this Chardonnay and showcases the winemakers' unique craftsmanship. Discover for yourself the refined taste and distinctive character of the Meerlust Chardonnay, a beautiful South African wine that has captured the hearts of wine lovers worldwide.
