Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage for red wines from the Côte de Beaune scored 91 points from Robert Parker. The wines from this excellent vintage mature early and are already very approachable.
This red Volnay comes from the small, 2.6-hectare Clos des Chenes vineyard. The vineyard is located near Monthelie, a region known for producing fuller, more ripe wines. Well, I can tell you, that's certainly true, especially with this Château de Meursault.

A quality terroir with the perfect location

Château de Meursault boasts a rich history dating back to the 11th century. Today, it's owned by the Halley family, who took over in 2012. And they certainly know how to manage the beautiful vineyards. The estate boasts 60 hectares of vineyards spread across several villages in Burgundy. The soil is rich in limestone on well-drained soils, creating a rich terroir. The climate also plays a significant role in viticulture. Thanks to their eastern location, the vineyards are protected from the wind by the western slopes. Furthermore, there's a significant temperature difference between day and night, meaning the cold at night drives the warmth out of the vineyards. Thanks to the high-quality terroir and the ideal location of the Clos des Chenes vineyard, the grapes are concentrated and small. This requires fewer steps during vinification, which benefits the quality. After harvest, a cold maceration lasts between 15 and 18 days. Then comes the alcoholic fermentation, which takes about 5 to 6 days. Finally, the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 15 to 18 months.

What does the Chateau de Meursault Volnay Clos des Chenes 1er Cru taste like?

The result is a characterful wine with abundant black fruit aromas, such as blackberries and cherries, but we also detected hints of spice and pepper. This balance is very pleasant and carries over to the palate. The taste is an experience in itself. Elegant with beautifully taut tannins.
