At &Wood, the grape takes center stage, with wood taking on the role of flavor enhancer. Butter & Wood Chardonnay is a truly oak-aged Chardonnay with a full, buttery structure and distinct vanilla and toasted notes. Fruit & Wood Viognier combines wood and stainless steel : the oak imparts creaminess and subtle spice, while the stainless steel preserves apricot, white peach, and floral notes. This creates two wines with the same house style of softness and length, but with distinctly different accents.
Origin and selection
The grapes come from IGP Pays d'Oc near Montpellier. Mediterranean sun imparts aromatic ripeness, while the evening breeze keeps the acidity vibrant. We select plots for fruit concentration and natural freshness, allowing Butter & Wood to showcase its rich Chardonnay profile while Fruit & Wood maintains that vibrant Viognier expression.
Winemaking and maturation
Butter & Wood Chardonnay is fermented and aged extensively in oak to develop its full, creamy style. Fruit & Wood Viognier is aged partly in oak for texture and partly in stainless steel for bright fruit and precision. This difference explains why the Chardonnay tastes rounder and creamier, while the Viognier remains fruitier and lighter with a silky finish.
At the table
Butter & Wood Chardonnay pairs beautifully with lobster, salmon, roasted chicken, and creamy pasta dishes. Fruit & Wood Viognier complements poultry in a light sauce, fish in sauce, lobster, and aged cheeses. Serve both at 10 to 12°C (50 to 54°F) for maximum aroma and balance.
Why &Wood at Perfectewijn
Butter & Wood Chardonnay has been a crowd-pleaser for years thanks to its compelling value and distinctive, oak-aged style. Fruit & Wood Viognier is the logical next step, offering the same level of quality but with a fresher, fruit-driven signature thanks to the combination of oak and stainless steel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Viognier and Chardonnay?
Viognier is more aromatic with peach, apricot, and flowers, while Chardonnay is more neutral and relies more on winemaking choices like oak or steel for style and structure.
Why can Perfectewijn offer this wine so cheaply?
We import our wines directly, eliminating intermediaries as much as possible. This means you pay a fair price for top quality from the South of France.
What does IGP Pays d'Oc stand for?
IGP Pays d'Oc is the protected geographical indication of the Occitanie region in southern France. Wines are permitted to list the grape variety on the label and are verified for origin, yield, and quality. Thanks to its diverse range from the coast to the Pyrenees, Pays d'Oc produces modern wines with consistent quality and excellent value.
What does wood aging do to a wine?
Aging in oak barrels adds texture and complexity through micro-oxygenation and aromas like vanilla, toast, and nuts. For whites, it gives more roundness and creaminess, while for reds, it adds softer tannins and extra length.
