This is really very good. Often, Gran Reservas have gone a bit too far in the aging process for me. Because of that, they're often a bit too ripe, a bit too tart, but this one...
This one doesn't have that; a super fresh Gran Reserva. Depth, good finish. Nice balance between spice, fruit, wood. You could wake me up for this.

Better than other Gran Reserva
Gran Reserva is a widely used term in Spanish winemaking. It's a kind of "quality mark" a wine must meet before it can be awarded the Gran Reserva designation. The requirements are strict. For example, the wine must age for at least two years in barrels and then another three years in bottle. However, Marques de Riscal goes even further. This phenomenal winery leaves nothing to chance and has a reputation to uphold. The grapes are, of course, all hand-picked, allowing for even stricter selection. After vinification, Marques de Riscal Gran Reserva begins its aging process. This begins with aging in American oak for a full 36 months (three years!), then the wine is bottled and stored for another three years in the Marques de Riscal cellars until the winemaker gives permission for the bottle to leave the cellar. From start to finish, the entire aging process of Marques de Riscal Gran Reserva takes at least six years!Those who wait long will be rewarded
