Argentinian Perfection with Dutch Roots. Bodegas Salentein is a leading winery in Argentina's Mendoza region, founded in 1992 by Dutch entrepreneur Mijndert Pon. The winery combines European expertise with the unique characteristics of the Argentinian terroir, resulting in wines of exceptional quality.
Vineyards and Terroir
Salentein's vineyards are located at altitudes ranging from 1,050 to 1,700 meters above sea level in the Uco Valley, at the foot of the Andes. This location creates an ideal climate with warm days and cool nights, which contributes to the development of complex aromas and balanced acidity in the grapes. The mineral-rich soil with excellent drainage offers optimal growing conditions for various grape varieties.
Grape varieties and wine assortment
Salentein cultivates a variety of grape varieties, including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The range includes several lines, such as the Barrel Selection, Numina, and Primus series, each reflecting the winery's diversity and quality.
Vinification and Maturation
The winemaking process at Salentein combines traditional methods with modern technologies. The wines are aged in a striking bodega, designed in the shape of a cross, where they are aged eight meters underground in oak barrels in a space reminiscent of an amphitheater. This unique architecture and aging conditions contribute to the complexity and depth of the wines.
Tasting Notes and Gastronomic Pairings
Salentein wines are known for their rich aromas, full flavors, and elegant textures. The Malbec offers notes of ripe plums, cocoa, and vanilla, while the Chardonnay impresses with aromas of tropical fruit and a hint of oak. These wines make excellent accompaniments to grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, and aged cheeses.
