Robertson Wine Region: Perfect for Chardonnay

Weltevrede's home base is Bonnievale, a small village on the Breede River. Lourens Jonker was the third generation to take charge of this winery in 1969. He had studied wine at the University of Stellenbosch and had also gained experience at various wineries worldwide. He recognized that the terroir and climate of Robertson were exceptionally well-suited to Chardonnay grapes. A specific vineyard, called Place of Rocks, offered the ideal conditions. The result has been a success, as the Weltevrede Place of Rocks Chardonnay remains a beloved wine among wine connoisseurs to this day.

Besides the astronomical quality of the Chardonnay grapes, the process is also a true craft. Maturation takes place in French oak. The barrel is stirred once a week to bring the yeast cells back to the bottom. This gives Weltevrede Place of Rocks Chardonnay greater richness and depth.
